July-3rd, 2011
Travel Agencies was a topic I chose to talk about in my presentation. Since July is a traveling season, I thought that such a topic would be interesting and as well informative.  The presentation started by engaging the audience in the topic throughout a variety of questions. Then I outlined the areas which the presentation focuses on. Yet before diving in the core of the subject, I shed some light on tourism. Tourism itself could be divided into a number of categories such as cultural, medical, sport and religious.
Travel agencies were defined in the presentation as retail businesses which sell traveling products and services. The main three types of traveling agencies: Mega, Regional and Independent were explained in the presentation. The Mega and Regional agencies are more international whereas the Independent focuses on domestic tourism. Some examples of travel agencies advertisements were discussed in the slides. After that, I talked about online booking as a rival and a serious competitor to travel agencies. These websites had a negative influence on these agencies. A significant reduction in customers and job offers were noted since the establishment of online booking websites. Finally, I gave some practical tips which are going to ensure the safety and joy of the trip.

A Report on Hadif’s Presentation

Student Name: Hadif Saleh
Topic: Blackberry
ID: H00158882
Venue: W113
Date: 26-6-2011 @ 4:50 to 5:00 pm
The topic was rather interesting for a novel device that has raised so much controversy. The presenter showed so much interest in the topic and was able to confidently express ideas related to the topic. As a presenter, Hadif was well prepared with note cards which helped him in the presentation. The eye contact, however, was moderate though he stood at a good distance from the screen and did not block the view from the audience.
In his presentation, Hadif provided a variety of slides which included detailed information regarding blackberries. He covered the history of the Blackberry and its programs, addiction to BBs and the most recent developments on Blackberry devices. Despite the short time he spent on the presentation, the slides were full of informative material that added clearness to the presentation.  The color of the text was appropriate and comfortable to the eyes. The images were relevant to the subject and the character image of the addiction to blackberries was so expressive. There was not much animation in the slides which would add some liveliness to the presentation. At the end, Hadif responded actively to the questions and comments.

Reflection on The Meeting

As a chairman, Saeed had the responsibility to assure that all points of the agenda are discussed thoroughly without stepping out from the main topic and provide sufficient time to each point. In order to gather as many ideas regarding the issue of expensive dowries, Saeed chose the brain-storming technique which proved very practical. As the discussion was in process, the secretary Mohammed Al Harbi took notes of the meeting and was able to jot down the most important points and details mentioned in the meeting. In addition, he contributed significantly to the discussion despite having the responsibly to write. Hadif was a very active contributing member and  came up with very useful ideas. Prior to ending the meeting, the group conferred about the best existing and possible solutions for expensive dowries.

Then Mohammed pointed out the specific rules which govern marriage in the U.A.E. Hadif commented on the institution of marriage which includes intimate interaction between partners.

To control the topic of the meeting, Saeed pointed out the major problems facing Emirati men who have the desire to get married which is the expensive dowry. The consequences of this problem are significant. Mohammed raised the issue of debt and loans related to banks. Hadif emphasized the social problems which include living in a low conditions and below expectations, misunderstanding and continuous arguments between partners which could lead to divorce. Saeed notes that as a result of these problems, Emirati men tend to choose foreign girls who do not ask for such high standards. The result of this however is that Emirati girls stay maiden with no husband for years and maybe never get married.

To find a solution for this issue, Mohammed mentioned the Marriage Fund which is supported and funded by the government of the U.A.E. in an attempt to lower the dowry. Awareness through media is an important method to influence families and the general public. For example, movies, talk shows, and advertisements are practical means to change the concept of marriage and its costs.
